I was born and raised in Bakersfield, educated in public schools and therefore have had exposure to a variety of people from diverse socio-economic backgrounds.  I am a former law enforcement officer and have owned a small business. I teach at the community college level. I was a soccer referee and an umpire of fast-pitch softball. I scuba dive, practice karate (Black Belt, Tae Kwon Do), I am married and have five children (three of whom are adults) and one grand-child.

Summer Semester, 2005, Appointed Interim Director of the Delano Campus Center. Spring Semester, 1997, I served as the Department Chair of Criminal Justice (Sabbatical Replacement). Adjunct Instructor - August, 1997 to December, 1999.  Full-time non-tenure track January – May, 2000. I served as the Campus Director while the permanent Director was on Active Military Duty. I had responsibility for managing two centers including staffing (11 full-time and 34 adjunct professors), budgeting ($800k), campus maintenance and operations. I represented the Delano campus on the Educational Administrators Council and College Council. The Delano Center averages 1,200 enrolled students (200 of which are full-time) generating $1.6m in FTES. During my tenure, the Delano Campus Center saw an increase of 14% enrollment. (This was at time when other community colleges in California experienced a stagnant or decline in their enrollments.)
