Course Description:
This
course is designed to be an introduction to the concepts of information systems
and use of computers in business and related fields. Topics covered include: history of computers, types of computers,
data communications, file processing, computer careers, systems development and
an introduction to personal computer applications software (word processing,
electronic spreadsheets, and database management programs).

Attendance:
Attendance is MANDATORY. The attendance policy as outlined in the
catalog will be enforced. It is expected
that students will notify us (in advance) of extended class absences. Any student that is TARDY or ABSENT for more
than two weeks of class without prior notification maybe dropped from the
course. Verification of this, however,
is the STUDENT'S
responsibility.
It is also expected that students
will behave courteously, and notify us before class in the RARE instance of
needing to leave class early.

Obtaining
occasional help from fellow students, lab assistants and instructor is legitimate;
however, handing in assignments that are substantially copies of another's
work is totally unacceptable. Such
cases will get grades of zero and may result in an F grade for the course. If there is any doubt about the author of
your work, you may be asked to explain how you did the assignment.
Plagiarism
in any form, such as copying from articles, books, web pages, etc., is totally
unacceptable.
Such assignments will get grades of zero.
Grading:
Grades will be assigned by
percentage of total semester points as follows (Percent
= Total points earned * 100 / 440):
90-100%
= A, 80-89.9% = B, 70-79.9% = C, 60-69.9% = D, below 60% = F
Make-up
and Late Work:
The exams and quizzes CANNOT be made-up nor turned in late – No
exceptions. Four (4) exams will be
given; 3 scores will be kept, the lowest exam score will be thrown out. Five (5) quizzes will be given; 4 scores will
be kept, the lowest quiz will be thrown out.
Late
homework will be penalized 25% for
each week that it is late.
However,
homework older than ONE (1) week
late will NOT be graded – No
exceptions.
All written assignments turned in
after the BEGINNING of the class period that they are due will be
considered late – No exceptions.
NO
written work will be accepted after May 3, 2012 – No exceptions,
and is due at the beginning of class.
The
Electronic Mail (email) exercises may NOT
be turned in late. Failure to
complete the exercises by the beginning of class on the date due will result in
a grade of zero – No exceptions.
Extra Credit:
There
will be an opportunity to earn extra credit of up to twenty (20) points announced later in the semester.
