| Welcome to Big Picture Design | |||
Course Instructor: Shaun Faith First impressions are important. When you create a map, does its overall look give the reader the sense that you know what you are doing? An amateur-looking map can undermine a professional data investigation. On the other hand, a polished layout with visual emphasis on key elements of the design and good readability helps you make your case, and designing for the display media will ensure that your audience can read the map. New map design tools, similar to those in illustration software, are now available with ArcMapª software.
When working with ArcMap, there are some small tricks you can use to ensure more stable designs. Being able
o transfer map files to other people (a bigger trick) so they can build on your hard work or export maps to other
software for final production are the last steps in completing a professional design.
